 Fernando Flores

Senator Fernando was Salvador Allende's Finance Minister at age 29. He was arrested after the Sept. 1973 coup. After several years in a Pinochet prison, he was permitted to emigrate to California, where he studied computer science, and became one of the early pioneers in computer networking, founding companies that made seminal contributions to basic messaging systems, "groupware," and business process redesign. In 1999 he returned to Chile, and successfully ran for the Chilean Senate in 2000.
